Ambassador Highlight: @deb_loves_running 

Hi my name is Deb Carrington. This is my 3rd year as a Route 66 Marathon Ambassador and I truly enjoy connecting with runners and walkers from all over the world at the RT 66. My first RT 66 event was Nov 2016 and after completing that event, I know where I need to be each year in November, participating in the RT 66 Marathon. I moved to OKC in Jan 2014, and had no idea what running was and especially what a 5K was. Aug 2014, I joined a Newbie 5K program, graduated to 10K, then off to the half marathon training program. I was so into the training by now, that in the middle of the half training I registered for a full marathon not knowing there’s extra training for a full, but I crossed the finish line smiling. I’ve done numerous 5Ks, several 10Ks, 15Ks, 40 half marathons and 5 full marathons. I may be  a slow runner, but I definitely consider myself a runner. One thing about me, I Complete Not Compete. I run for me and to have fun along the route before crossing the finish line.
T-Minus 100 DAYS until Tulsas BIGGEST PARTY weekend!!! We cant wait to cheer on through the finish line!

Did you know that one of the best non-running activities for runners is strength training? It allows runners to improve strength in their running muscles, create balance between unbalanced muscle groups, and focus on keeping their legs strong during injury recovery. Whether you use body-weight resistance training or weight training, strength training is an excellent opportunity to strengthen your core so you can avoid fatigue and maintain proper running form.

Hot 🔥 Fire 🔥 Flames it’s hot outside!!
If the weekends are when you get your long runs in, you know staying inside can be boring when you are trying to get in all your miles. Try some of these tips this weekend and over the next couple months to help you train smart the rest of summer.
 
• Drink more water
• Pace your activity
• Drink more water
• Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing
• Try to schedule your runs either earlier or later in the day
• Drink more water
• If possible, plan routes that are shaded
• Apply sunscreen! - SPF of 15 or higher
• Drink more water
