Pace groups and times are set for the 2011 Williams Route 66 Marathon and Half Marathon, with two new pace times added for the half marathon.
“Registration increases in the Williams Route 66 half marathon, as well as increases in interest in the half marathon distances in general, caused us to add two pace groups for the 2011 half marathon,” said Kathryn White, pace team coordinator for Fleet Feet Sports Tulsa.
The pace group times are based on the bell curve data of when most runners finish the marathon or half marathon. Additionally, the pace officials listen to runner feedback and comments at the pace team booth at the Williams Route 66 Marathon Health, Fitness and Sustainability Expo each year.
For 2011, the half marathon and marathon will offer nine pace groups each. The times are listed below. For 2011, the marathon will have a pacer running as a closer – to finish the marathon in a time of 6:30, at which time the course re-opens (clocks remain open for 7:30.)
All pace team members are experienced runners and experienced pacers. As in previous years, the pace team will man a booth at the expo where runners can ask questions and get more information. This year’s pace times are as follows:
1:45, 1:50, 1:55, 2:00, 2:05, 2:10, 2:15, 2:20, 2:30
3:30, 3:40, 3:50, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, 5:00, Closer (6:30)
