In 2011, the Williams Route 66 Marathon is partnering the Tulsa-area YMCA to promote health, running and fitness to the Tulsa community.
We are pleased to share that the YMCA in Tulsa is now a finalist to receive funding through LIVESTRONG’s Community Impact Project to implement LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, a physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors achieve their holistic health goals. This research-based program offers those living with, through and beyond cancer a safe, empowering environment to participate in activities focused on strengthening the whole person. Participants work with specially trained Y staff to achieve goals such as building muscle mass and strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the person and not the disease, Y staff can help people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body.
The public will determine which organizations receive funding by voting online at LIVESTRONG’s Community Impact Project website. The organizations receiving the most online votes within their regions will be awarded funds, materials and training to fight back against cancer in their community.
Please vote to bring LIVESTRONG at the YMCA to our community and encourage your family and friends to do so as well. To vote, click on this link: http://vote.livestrong.org/regions/3/158-ymca-of-greater-tulsa/.
The voting deadline is May 31. We at Route 66 hope you will support the Y’s efforts to help cancer survivors achieve their health and well-being goals through LIVESTRONG at the YMCA.
